Sporty Chic – Day 25
To any Harry Potter event, you should always wear a cape, wand and magical animal of your choice. But if it’s “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter” at Universal Studios in Orlando and it’s ninety degrees, you could also wear this –
I chose a kind of maxi tribal inspired dress (Mrs. Kingsley Shacklebolt?) for the day because all my Sporty Chic dresses are sleeveless and I didn’t want to get sunburnt. My kids love the Harry Potter books (and I love the fact the books were written by a woman!) and so we had to make a pit stop at Universal to explore the magical and touristy world of Mrs. Rowling. My opinion? Great butter beer, fun rides, but too many Muggles…
Despite the heat and the crowds, we had so much fun and I couldn’t help but be inspired by the moms I saw. It’s not easy going to these kinds of places with kids even though these places are for kids. The lines for everything are so long, the food is super gross and the fear of losing your child in the crowd is ever present. And yet, we do it, time and time again, just for our kids.
So my “Mom of the Day” award goes to this woman –
I can’t imagine wearing traditional Middle Eastern garb on a cold day, much less a humid, ninety degree Orlando day.
But it starts to rain and instead of just leaving, this mom puts a plastic, Mickey Mouse poncho over her already incredibly heavy outfit — and then rides the carousel!
By the end of the day I was exhausted carrying a sleeping August to the car while I cursed my Mrs. Shacklebolt dress because I was so sweaty it was clinging to my body in the most unflattering way possible. Meanwhile, Buck and Emerson were so tired they couldn’t steer properly in their Heely shoes and mowed several small children and elderly people over. I almost gave up. I wanted to just call my husband and tell him to fly to Orlando and help us walk to the parking garage, but then I thought of poncho-Middle-Eastern-garb-mom and I kept walking.
You never know who is going to inspire you or more importantly, who you just might inspire..
